Kole Price and Gabriel Borges Make History at The Run For A Million

From August 11 to 15, 2026, Las Vegas, Nevada, hosted one of the biggest events in Western sports: The Run For A Million (TRFAM). Created in 2019 by producer and screenwriter Taylor Sheridan, TRFAM is held annually in Nevada and brings together some of the world’s top riders and horses across different disciplines, including Reining, Cutting, and Cow Horse, as well as competitions for youth, non-pros, and other divisions.

Since its creation, The Run For a Million has continued to grow within the international equestrian community by combining high-level competition with an entertainment-focused structure designed to bring Western sports closer to a broader audience. The event has also gained visibility through the series The Last Cowboy, produced by Sheridan, which follows Reining riders throughout their preparation and journey toward the competition.

The Million Dollar Competition

Among all the competitions held during the event, one of the most anticipated is the Million Dollar Competition, the premier Reining event at TRFAM. As its name suggests, the competition features a $1 million purse and a field limited to just 16 riders. Earning a place in the Million Dollar Competition is an achievement in itself, with competitors qualifying through a series of designated events.

Reaching the Million Dollar Competition arena is no easy task. For the 2026 edition, five competitors earned their spots based on results from the $100,000 Shootout held the day before the Million Dollar Competition in 2025. A sixth spot was awarded to the winner of the competition held during Equita Lyon, in France. The remaining ten spots were determined through the Bosque Ranch Shootout, a competition created as a qualifying stage for TRFAM.

 In addition to these spots, Organnact athlete, Fernando Salgado received a special invitation after being unable to compete in the 2025 edition.

With only 16 riders in the field, every competitor entered the arena with an opportunity to compete alongside some of the biggest names in the sport—and potentially write a new chapter in Reining history.

And that is exactly what happened in 2026.

A Historic Night in Las Vegas

On Saturday, August 15, the Million Dollar Competition took place, featuring two Organnact athletes who would become central to one of the most memorable moments of the evening: Kole Price, representing the United States, and Gabriel Borges, representing Brazil.

Gabriel Borges and Spooks Gotta Ice were first to make history.

This pair delivered an exceptional performance, earning a score of 236.5, the Brazilian rider tied the then-highest score in the history of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA).

The 236.5 record had been set in 2007 by Andrea Fappani and Custom Legend and had remained the highest score recorded by the association for 19 years.

For the first time since 2007, a rider had reached that historic mark.

But the night was not over yet.

Shortly afterward, Kole Price and Golden Coins entered the arena.

Price delivered a performance worth 237.5 points, surpassing the previous record by a single point and establishing a new NRHA record.

The sequence made the result even more remarkable: first, Gabriel Borges tied a record that had stood untouched for 19 years. Then, Kole Price went one step further and established a new record.

Gabriel Borges: From Qualifier to Reserve Champion

For Gabriel Borges, the 236.5 score represented much more than tying a historic record.

The score also highlighted the rider’s evolution within The Run For A Million itself.

In 2024, Gabriel competed in the event aboard OO7, earning a score of 226.5, which placed him tied for fourth with Casey Deary.

Two years later, Gabriel returned to the TRFAM arena with a new partner, Spooks Gotta Ice, and improved his best score at the event by 10 points.

The difference may seem small on paper, but in a high-level competition such as the Million Dollar Competition, every point represents the precise execution of a series of movements and decisions made within just a few minutes in the arena.

Gabriel’s result earned him the title of Reserve Champion and established his performance as one of the strongest ever achieved by a Brazilian rider at the event.

Gabriel Borges’ journey to the 2026 TRFAM also began long before Las Vegas.

To earn his place in the 2026 Million Dollar Competition, Gabriel competed in The Qualifier, held in March 2026. The event served as one of the qualifying opportunities for riders hoping to secure a position at TRFAM.

Riding Spooks Gotta Ice, Gabriel earned a score of 230 points and won The Qualifier, securing his spot in the Million Dollar Competition.

The victory represented another important step in the partnership between Gabriel and Spooks Gotta Ice. The horse was already familiar to Gabriel, and the pair had developed their partnership in Brazil before making their way to the United States.

Their progress continued throughout the 2026 season, eventually bringing them to the biggest stage at The Run For A Million.

In Las Vegas, they once again raised the bar.

Gabriel and Spooks Gotta Ice improved their qualifying score from 230 to 236.5, gaining six points between The Qualifier and the Million Dollar Competition.

More importantly, they reached the biggest stage of TRFAM and tied a record that had stood for 19 years.

Understanding the significance of 236.5

To understand the significance of the result, it is important to understand the discipline itself.

Reining is a Western discipline in which horse and rider perform a predetermined pattern. The performance requires the horse to demonstrate control, precision, balance, speed, and athletic ability, while the rider must guide each movement with the highest possible level of accuracy.

Among the best-known movements are spins, fast turns performed around one hind leg; rollbacks, which involve a stop followed by an immediate change of direction; large and small circles performed at different speeds; lead changes during the lope; and the famous sliding stops, in which the horse slows down and slides on its hindquarters while maintaining control throughout the movement.

Scores are based on the execution of these movements and the overall quality of the performance. As a result, achieving such a high score requires an extremely demanding pattern to be executed with precision and consistency.

That is what made Gabriel's 236.5-point performance so significant.

He did not simply finish second. He reached a score that had stood as the benchmark of NRHA competition since 2007.

And then, moments later, the benchmark changed.

Kole Price Sets a New Record

Following Gabriel's record-tying performance, Kole Price and Golden Coins entered the arena with the opportunity to make history themselves.

They did exactly that.

Kole earned 237.5 points, establishing the new highest score in NRHA history, ending a record that had stood for 19 years.

The result also secured Kole Price the win in the Million Dollar Competition, making Golden Coins part of a historic moment for the discipline.

The difference between the top two finishers was minimal: just one point separated champion Kole Price from Reserve Champion Gabriel Borges.

The 2026 edition of The Run For A Million ended with a result that will be difficult to forget. It was a night that will be remembered for years to come.
